Concrete Driveways

Choosing a concrete driveway for a new construction home or for replacing an existing old driveway is a great decision when comparing to other materials.  A new concrete driveway is very durable and is going to last you for decades to come.  An important decision once you have decided to install a new concrete driveway is choosing a reputable and competent concrete contractor to do the work.  The Team at Halloran Construction LLC is the area's most trusted and reliable concrete contractor to install your new concrete driveway.  Plain and simple, we do what we say we are going to do!  Good communication is key when coordinating the start and progress of the new concrete driveway project.

We take many intentional steps in the construction process choosing high quality materials and using proven finishing techniques to create a long lasting and durable concrete driveway.  A new concrete driveway should always start with a stable sub grade.  Excavating out any additional soft spots and replacing with additional rock is important in the longevity and durability of your new concrete driveway.  Next is having a thick and compacted rock base.  For a driveway you want at least 4" of rock base material that is compacted and tight.  Next is the reinforcement within the concrete.  We use 1/2" rebar throughout in a grid like pattern on 4' centers as well as putting fiber mesh in the wet concrete mix.  For a typical residential pour you will want at least a 4" thick concrete pour to support normal size and weight vehicles.  If you have a larger and heavier truck or van you may consider going a little thicker to a 5" or 6" thick concrete pour.  Some counties require a 6" thick concrete pour at the approach where it meets the street, which is usually the last 10'- 12' of concrete from the street.  Placing non-rotting expansion joints at the street or within the concrete pour are important in creating cushion between the house and the street.  We use a recycled rubber expansion joint that holds up really well and won't rot out after a couple years.

Next, is choosing a durable and high quality concrete mix design.  We work closely with our Redi Mix supplier to make sure we have clean raw materials, and use at least a 6 sac, 4000 psi strength concrete or greater.   Finally, actually placing the concrete with the correct finishing techniques and use of high quality finishing aids helps ensure your driveway surface is going to last a long time.  Another thing to consider when installing a new concrete driveway is signing up for our driveway clean and seal services.  After 30 days of cure time we can come back and power wash your driveway and apply a high quality sealer to protect the surface.  We recommend an initial seal before the first Winter season after installing a new concrete driveway.  We here at Halloran Construction LLC are confident that you will have a great experience and a long lasting and durable concrete driveway for many years to come when working with us!
